Recession Proof, Mang!
Typically we wouldn’t expect
rappers who claim to have millions to face the same recession we as citizens of
the United States claim to be facing. Now of course if we take a closer look,
anyone with financial intelligence can see that the rappers are selling the
dream that you're destined to chase. Today you can find rappers changing their
swag to match a more believable perspective. As record sales decline, it’s
becoming more apparent to the general population that musicians and artists are
not making even half the amount they used to. Today artists claiming to still
have the big bling are those who are proclaiming to be “recession proof, mang!”
In an
article at CNN.com,
luxury cars gold teeth and diamond chains are said to be a thing of the past
(Sutter, 2009). The most important thing to look at here is the decline of
Hip-Hop record sales mentioned. With only two genres taking a larger fall in
sales, it leads one whom is planning to build a career predominantly in this
field to refine and restructure the financing methods it would typically take
to maintain n a recording business. One thing that most people today are facing
is the realization that they can’t quit their day jobs! This is not limited
just personnel trying to get into the entertainment industry, but we also find
that people are not able to retire as quickly as in the past. Everyone in this
country seems to have been forced to restructure their finances. This
restructure is affecting not just the economy and record sales, but also how production
is made with the idea of return on investment in mind.
Overall the
industry has become a small business and is intricately designed to look very
large. Unfortunately for most seeking refuge in this industry having two
careers now seems to be the only option. This in itself will also affect the
lifestyle of the industry professional, leaving them to invest less in more
places. What do you think?
